HMD Global is the brand licensee and global manufacturer of Android smartphones under the Nokia Phones brand. HMD has an annual turnover of 2,5 BN EUR and they operate in 86 different countries.
When the pandemic and subsequent lockdowns started to affect their sales through traditional brick and mortar retail sales HMD saw a need to take a major shift towards digital in both consumer and enterprise sales. This meant a transformation into their existing business model and HMD needed to rethink a lot of its processes around finance, marketing, logistics, and even supply chain.
We were engaged in assisting HMD in kickstarting this transformation and worked alongside HMD’s teams to conduct strategy and concept development for the new direct-to-consumer business and sales forecasting as well as managing the program for its first few months.
It was evident that the nokia.com/phones site needed to be revamped entirely to enable not only world-class e-commerce capabilities but also make sure the value proposition of Nokia Phones is communicated to customers across the globe.
Special attention was given to make sure the devices with their iconic Nordic design and Android features are represented on a level required by a brand of this caliber.
We did the technical assessment for the new platform with the required direct-to-customer functionalities. Based on data we gathered from the prior website we designed the completely new customer experience for Nokia Phones.
BigCommerce was chosen as the ecommerce platform while the front end was built using a composable (headless) architecture in React enabled by Contentful as the API-based content management system. The implementation was done following agile development methodologies resulting in a speedy deployment of just 12 weeks from start to finish.
